Diets, and fitness, and gurus, oh my!

I get that one of the most common New Year's resolutions is to lose weight. (It happens to be my resolution as well.) But I'm overwhelmed with all the lose weight, change your life, get slim tips that are EVERYWHERE. Couldn't they just spread it out over the year, when I'm losing motivation?

Oprah's got the best life thing and Martha's got the body and soul challenge. Even my beloved food network has been airing their "light" recipes. It's all great, but I've been gaining and losing 20-40 lbs at a time for the past ten years. I think following any type of plan is going to backfire for me. I was all for Oprah's thing until I heard the doctor on TV say, "no sugar." Restricting anything for me is always bad. As soon as I've met my goal, I go right back. Perhaps at least answering some of the questions as to why I'm fat would help. I may go online and take a look at it again. Mostly this year, I'm going to really try to make better food choices, control my portions, and get outside and move!

I signed up for unlimited stroller strides classes and have commited myself to going at least three times a week. My first class was this morning and it was great! Of course I won't be able to walk tomorrow and I've never felt so out of shape in my life, but I know if I keep it up I should start dropping pounds in no time. I also signed up for Bookieboo.com which is a social networking site for moms into fitness. I'm using it as a support system. Check it out and add me as a friend!

What's your fitness plan/fad diet of choice this year?

I know my biggest problem is portion control. Stroller strides sound like such a great idea. Good luck!

I don't have a fitness/diet fad for this year. My goal is to make it to the gym at least one day a week anymore than that would be fantastic, but I'll start low. We're paying for a gym membership that I don't use.

I am a Weight Watchers success story. Now, granted, I didn't have to lose tons, but I did have to lose some and the meetings helped SO much! It taught me how to really SEE what I was eating and pay attention. Portion control was a huge issue and understanding that and what it actually feels like to be "full" and not bloated and stuffed to the gills was a lesson that I had to learn and it has served me well. I did "borrow" a bit of weight over the holidays, but I am already well on my way to being back where I was because I learned how to eat properly. Also...they NEVER tell you that stuff is off limits! If you tell me I can't have it...that's all I'll eat, so I knew a system like that would never work. I can have all kinds of wonderful foods with WW and most of all, I can maintain my weight because I actually learned how to eat properly.

I'm the Queen of Denile and have sworn to take my closet back! I'm eating either guilt-free veggie soup or fresh fruit before every meal to try to help control my portions.

I've got to get out and walk and do something active. I've also given up my beloved chocolate... at least by the bagful. :)

There are a couple of us that want to do it together so I started a forum off of my blog if you're interested in joining us. :)

Good luck! Last time I looked there wasn't a stroller fit here, maybe there is now. I think I'd enjoy that.

I've still got 40 lbs. of the post baby fat to go & I'm nursing right now, so definitely no fads. Just Weight Watchers & I joined the Modern Mom Challenge-- http://mmchallenge.ning.com/.

Girl, if someone said no sugar to me, well gosh... I'd drive over to Sprinkles & order me a dozen!

I've been wanting to do stroller strides, but I have a bulky stroller. Can't wait to hear your progress with this & good luck with all your 2009 health/fitness goals!

Hi Ladies! Thanks so much for the comments! It's nice to know I'm not the only one. Had my second stroller strides class today. It's AWESOME! It's okay if you have a bulky stroller...most of the mom's have those double wide bob jogging strollers or mountain buggy which actually adds to your work out since we walked some hills and had to push them up! Still working on the food part...I made gnocchi with baby bella mushrooms sauteed in shallots and butter last night to go with the grilled halibut and steamed asparagus. So potato dumplings not so good, but i only gave myself half of what I would normally eat!

My fitness plan? BALANCE! Part of that entails taking steps to rid myself of the blogger'sbutt I've grown over the past two years.

Lovely, simply lovely...;)

ok...I finally DID loose the weight with last years resolution but now I really have to work on the 'getting in shape' deal... It's so hard to find/make the time for myself and I'm sure much easier to make the excuses. I'm going to go check out this Bookieboo.com!! Hope to see you there!

The things I did to loose...eat smaller portions, always leave food on my plate, don't eat after 7:00 (very difficult) and DO get exercise after 7:00 (also very difficult).
